Red Poppies pastel painting by Michele Volpe on 9 X 12 sanded Uart pastel paper. I painted these poppies from my own imagination. Red poppies are among my favorite flowers and one of my favorites to paint. I guess it’s a throwback to my memories of the Wizard of Oz. I rarely saw them when I was growing up and it was always a rare treat when I did. One of my grandmother’s friends had a large garden and she grew red poppies. Their bright red color was a stand out while they were in bloom from the other flowers. She had a wide variety of lilies, perennials and annuals in her garden but the red poppies were always my favorite. I tried to capture their vibrant color here in my piece with a mixed green background. This painting would look great in any room that needs a pop of color! I hope you enjoy my work.
