It Takes A Village – Towns on Martha’s Vineyard original Mixed Media Acrylic Painting by Michele Volpe on a 16X20 Stretched Canvas. Martha’s Vineyard is made up of several towns. This painting depicts the main feature found in each of them. From the cliffs in Gay Head to the Gazebo in Ocean Park in Oak Bluffs, if you look closely, you will find them represented. One of the very MANY thing I love about Martha’s Vineyard is how each town is so different that you wouldn’t even know you were on the same island. Each one has it’s own distinct feel and specialness. I tried to capture that in my painting. I used an acrylic base and then added many, many layers of colored tissue paper over it and collage elements. I also used tempura paint sticks and fabric to bring out more texture. This painting is perfect for anyone who loves Martha’s Vineyard. There’s something for everyone in it. It would hang beautifully in a summer home as well as a year round residence as a reminder of a well loved place.
