Scottish Highland Cow (Heilan Coo) by Michele Volpe original Gouache painting on 9 X 12 watercolor acid free paper. I met a Scottish Highland Cow in Maine at a Shaker Farm. He came right up to me for a pat on his furry head but his horns were very impressive. His long-haired coat was beautiful and full of rich brown and sandy brown colors. I loved how his bangs hung over his soft brown eyes. I knew I had to paint one someday. This Coo as they are known as in Scottland just spoke to me. Lying happily amongst the wildflowers with the hills and a loch in the background was just a perfect setting. They are such gentle beasts and I tried to capture his serenity. Coos are so popular that in Scottland they have renamed Tuesday, Coosday. This painting would look great in any home that appreciates a Heilan Coo or a lovely Scottish landscape.
